Pioneering the use of re-enactment

After an insightful trip to the Lincolnshire Archives my group have decided to recreate the opening ceremony of the Drill Hall from 24th May 1890. At the archives we found a transcript detailing who attended the event, who spoke and even gave an exact account of the speeches given. We also found the menu and the order of procedures, enabling us to accurately reconstruct the ceremony.

We got inspiration for this idea from Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard artists who ‘initially became known for pioneering the use of re-enactment within contemporary visual art.’ (http://www.iainandjane.com/work/live-art/a-rock-n-roll-suicide/) However unlike Forsyth and Pollard we have decided to fuse 1890 and 2015, juxtaposing the features of the original Drill Hall with the current. For example we will serve the dinner to our guests on silver platters just as was done but the actual food will be the simple sandwiches and cans of pop available in the café now.
